Investments and Information: Two Thoughts for Our Clients
Investment Research – We go deep
As we monitor investment markets for our clients, one of the keys to our approach is to find the best sources of information and focus on its applicability to our client’s needs. Industry leading sources like Morningstar, Barron’s, and the Wall Street Journal are essential. But there is no replacing firsthand reports of our fund companies. Quarterly updates from our fund managers are essential to understanding the markets, and ensuring their approach is sound. All these sources inform OFM’s internal discussions about client’s investments as we assure those portfolios are following a plan that is right for each individual client
Meeting With Our Managers
Recently two of our Wealth Managers, Cris Marik and myself, were able to meet with folks from one of our fund companies, Calvert. Joining us was John Streur, Chairman of Calvert. Being able to sit across the table from someone with John’s experience and intelligence was a terrific opportunity. With decades of experience with investments his perspective was great to experience firsthand.
John and his team at Calvert track world class companies like Apple, Pepsi, and Costco to ensure they continue to deserve a place in our client’s portfolios. These companies meet Calvert’s high standards for their enduring business practices and earning potential. Through all the volatility in the last several years his guidance has been key to Calvert meeting our expectations for client returns.
Later that day John appeared as a keynote speaker at a CFA Institute Conference held in the offices of Morningstar in downtown Chicago. Cris and I were able to glean great insights from him, and the other speakers throughout the afternoon. As we monitor our client portfolios these discussions with top notch professionals continue to inform our thinking and practice.
